Municon West Coast is an engineering company that installs geotechnical and structural monitoring instrumentation tailored to specific project site conditions. For a large part of their projects, they use devices from Sigicom, and they have over 300 INFRA units from Sigicom in their fleet. Austyn Crites, Operations Manager at Municon, has about four years of partnering with Sigicom and appreciates how close the relationship has grown.

What stands out most about working with Sigicom is not just the reliability of the products but the level of customer support. The Sigicom team consistently demonstrates a high level of attention to detail and accessibility. We often consider them an extension of our engineering staff, says Austyn.
Municon is involved in various types of projects, including infrastructure projects, hospital upgrades, and sewer improvements, throughout the US West Coast. All projects are unique and may require different solutions. Austyn recalls one project where major renovations were taking place in a San Francisco hospital, where communication issues arose due to the complex building’s infrastructure. The thick concrete walls made it difficult to set up the instrumentation. Municon and Sigicom explored various technical solutions by testing different antennas and modems. The collaboration resulted in a reliable setup, and data transmission worked effectively despite challenging conditions.
– Sigicom’s commitment to local support is great. We work almost exclusively with their regional office here in the US, and the responsiveness is excellent. Unlike other companies where support might take a day or two, with Sigicom, we can get in touch with someone in minutes, says Austyn.
Besides the support function, Austyn also praises Sigicom’s devices and software application, INFRA Net. The software is developed in line with customer needs and is continuously improved, making it easy to deliver the precise data clients require. The hardware is built to last, with robust instruments designed to endure harsh outdoor conditions. As Austyn Crites puts it, an instrument installed on a construction site” goes to hell and back.”

– This durability lowers the overall cost of the sensor because it’s not just used for one project; we can extend its life and reuse the equipment.
Another key advantage for Municon has been Sigicom’s calibration capabilities. When Municon received projects requiring a large number of sensors, they had to ramp up quickly. Thanks to Sigicom’s U.S.-based calibration services, long delays that would have come from shipping devices overseas was avoided.
– The Sigicom team’s dedication, reliability, and technical expertise truly make an impact on our operations, and we look forward to continuing this strong relationship for years to come, Austyn concludes.
