Environment Policy

Background
Sigicom believes that a healthy environment is necessary for the well-being of society, our people, and our business and is the foundation for a sustainable and strong economy. Sigicom recognizes that diverse and healthy natural resources - fresh water, oceans, air, forests, grasslands, and agro-systems - are a critical component of social and sustainable economic development. Forests are particularly important for the environment and bio-diversity. They are vital to water and air quality, and help regulate climate. Forests are home to thousands of species of wildlife, and at the same time represent a natural source of timber. The key challenge for society is to manage the competing human demands on land, soil and vegetation without undermining crucial eco-system functions.

We take our responsibility for environmental stewardship seriously and wish to play a constructive role in helping to address the challenges facing the environment.

Sigicom´s environmental policy objectives are:

  • To provide a safe and healthful workplace and ensure that personnel are properly trained and have appropriate safety and emergency equipment.
  • To be an environmentally responsible neighbour in the communities in which we operate, and act promptly and responsibly to correct incidents or conditions that might endanger health, safety, or the environment and report them to authorities promptly and inform affected parties as appropriate.
  • To conserve natural resources by reusing and recycling materials, purchasing recycled materials, and using recyclable packaging and other materials.
  • To develop, manufacture, and market products that are safe for their intended uses, efficient in their energy usage, protective of the environment, and that can be reused, recycled or disposed of safely.
  • To use development and manufacturing processes that do not adversely affect the environment, including development of  improved operations and technologies that minimize waste, prevent air, water, and other pollution, minimize health and safety risks, and dispose of waste material safely and responsibly.
  • To ensure the responsible use of energy throughout our business, including conserving energy, improving energy efficiency, and giving preference to renewable over non-renewable energy sources when feasible.
  • To meet or exceed all applicable government requirements and voluntary requirements to which SIGICOM subscribes.

We will strive to continually improve Sigicom’s environmental management system and performance, and periodically issue progress reports to the general public.
